Dark Blue has a fan in me, already. It is extremely fast paced and McDermott is great. If anyone isn't watching it, and decides to try The Philanthropist, I hope you'll leave a note on this discussion or start another. It looks interesting but since I record everything and it's on against DB I won't be getting it.
Dark Blue is in Many Ways Miami Vice without the nice clothes and music. Pretty typical Undercover cop show decent summer show. I kinda liked the one Philanthropist I saw.
I didn't realize Philanthropist had been aired already. I've found out that TNT (like USA) rebroadcasts the same episodes of Leverage and DB in the 10PM time slot (CST) so will be able to record all of them. Thanx for the input. I didn't run across a preview to post for it
so what's the premise?
I don't think I'd equate DB and MV. Crockett and Tubbs did go undercover sometimes, but mostly they were just regular cops that handled VICE. Deep Blue (so far) is a lot more intense and dark! Case in point the last one where he could have gotten his wife killed, just for sneaking home for her birthday. I agree that's it turning out to be a good Summer show, and in all honesty I may like it because of my McDermott crush that started with The Practice.
P.S. I don't think we'll ever see shows spending their budgets on clothing and music anymore. The networks seem not to be ordering anymore than 13 episodes (1/2 season) and then they end up on hiatus when they find it was popular but ran outta shows, like happened with Fringe on Fox.
The Philanthropist I saw dealt with the title guy going to war torn Africa. The premise is he's rich, owns some big company, and wants to do well. His partners run the business, and stew about his safety. Fringe came back after mid-season and may have had more than 13. It'll be fully ordered this season, whatever that means. A lot of what happens with Fox I think, may revolve around Idol, their breadwinner.
Oh yeah, Fox brought back Fringe (even with it's limited commercials) and I love the show and am keeping it on disc. Fox is a strange network to me. They get some really good shows but give them NO time to gain a following, and I think of them as "quick-draw" like something outta the old west!
It sounds like I may like Philanthropist, and will let you know when I've see it. Any ideas on what might be on your Sept. watch list from the promos you've seen? I know you mentioned Three Rivers, which is what got me into posting the up and commers.
Operating from memory when fall schedule list came out, I might try Flash Forward (Sci-Fi) The Vampire Diaries on CW, Supernatural's new lead-in, as Smallville goes to Fridays. You say Fox is strange, how about CW-Immidiately drops Everwood, Cancels Gilmore Girls, whew. I'm probably going to watch NCIS L.A.. The short arc last year was okay, although I didn't see the repartee between characters like NCIS. But NCIS technically was a JAG spin-off and will run forevewr, so if it's anything like the original, L.A. may succeed. Can't think of much else off hand. I remember when I read the respective lists, I thought some of the summer stuff might be better. One last thing, rumor is House is gonna pull a Cuckoo's Nest while in hospital. Only he and Nicholson could make that work.
Thanks for the heads up on The Vampire Diaries! I posted it today for folks to preview. I'm not as big a fan as you are of The CW, but do watch Smallville. Dale's a fan of NCIS and I'll give the L.A. version a try also, but liked Jag better. I think it was the sexual tension between Rabb and Mac that I enjoyed.
I'll watch anything House and think you're right about him being able to pull off a Cuckoo's Nest, even without Nurse Ratchet. LOL
My hopeful's for the 2009 season are:
Day One
The Deep End
Three Rivers (maybe)
Flash Forward
The Forgotten
Human Target
NCIS Los Angeles (maybe)
Past Life
Trauma
You'll notice that I'm a big Sci-Fi fan - but it has to be well written. I mean I don't just love all Sci-Fi. I may give Vampire Diaries a try, since I really liked Moonlight. I'll pass on Eastwick, as I'm not much into witches, then again I would have said the same of Vampires - right up until Moonlight!
